Have you seen a great light ?

It seemed that every day, I was drawn to some source of light. Whether it was the illuminated candles in a window, lights on a Christmas tree, a lighthouse or the sun rising over the ocean, I was reminded of the importance of light during this holy season. I often thought of Isaiah 9:2,6 which reminds us that "the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness - on them light has shined...For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

There are many individuals for whom this holiday season is void of light. They are experiencing a time of darkness in their lives for various reasons. Maybe they are traveling through unknown or unfamiliar territory as they are dealing with grief after the death of a loved one. Perhaps a family member has been laid off from a job and the savings account is depleted. Some individuals may be picking up the pieces of shattered dreams and hopes as a result of the end of an important relationship. Maybe sickness or disease has disrupted someone's journey.

Whatever your circumstances during this holiday season, may the light of the world shine through the darkness and give you peace.

Instant Noodles and Styrofoam Lining

This food warning seems to have originated in the U.K., and has since made the rounds here. "The nephew of a fellow colleague?" Hmmm...

This is what I heard from a fellow colleague.

His nephew, who was studying in UK for about one and a half years, likes to eat cup-a-noodle. And guess what! His doctor has found that there is a layer of wax lining the walls of his stomach. Seems that instant noodles that comes with foam containers contain an edible layer of wax.

However, regular consumptions make it hard for our livers to clear the toxic. This person died when he went for an operation to try to remove the layer.

Pls do not boil the noodles in the container. Transfer to a glass bowl before you put the hot water.


As if the noodles and artificial flavorings weren't unhealthy enough, now we have to worry about the styrofoam! Fortunately, this is just another unqualified food "warning" without any basis. As those ever-lovable Snopes point out:

- Styrofoam containers don't need a wax coating, since the material helps keep food hot all by itself.
- A wax coating in a styrofoam container would melt with the heat of the food.
- Edible wax is already a common ingredient in other food products, and it does not line the stomach or otherwise pose a serious threat to human health.

Good Bye Former President Corazon Aquino (1933-2009)

Our beloved former President Cory Aquino passed away this morning after battling colon cancer. It is really a sad day for Filipinos around the world. The icon of democracy is gone and I wonder if we can have someone like her to lead the Philippines. May she rest in peace.

Feeling Better From Swine Flu, Nah!

I had a fever last two weeks ago that was Saturday and since I was a good boy, I just stayed home and self-quarantined myself. Anyway, I'm just over reacting since my temperature was only 36.4. Haha... The whole Saturday I just watched movies and TV series on my laptop. By the way, I recommend that you watch the HBO series, "True Blood." If you're into Twilight, "True Blood" is the real deal.

Sunday, I was supposed to go to work but I was still feeling sick. I slept the whole day and continue doing my blog. What a great way to relax.

Yesterday, I dropped by the grocery to buy some fruits . I bought some apples and was attracted with the grapes, so I also bought one pack. That night while I was watching True Blood, I was also eating the grapes. Yum yum!

Speaking of grapes, when I checked my grapes on the refrigerator I think someone ate a portion of it. Tsk tsk tsk.

Job Hunting

With the US economy slowing down, a lot of people are getting concerned about the job market.

If you're searching for work or thinking of a career change, note that the majority of jobs are never advertised so you're better off networking with friends, family and co-workers. Social networking sites and industry blogs are also good sources of opportunities but you need to play your cards right.

A lot of employers nowadays use software to detect keywords on online resumes. If you are using internet job boards, make sure you use specific and effective keywords on your resume to highlight what you can offer. Emphasize what you can do and what you did at your current or previous job.

A market downturn may offer you plenty of spare time. Consider going back to school to upgrade or get new skills.
